Your septic tank doesn’t have a timer on it to let you know that it is time for a cleaning. Fortunately, there are some signs that it is time for a septic tank cleaning.

Is It Time for a Septic Tank Cleaning?

Our septic professionals at William Dustin Septic can come out to your home and look for these signs, so you will know if you need to move forward with a septic tank cleaning.

  • Septic Tank CleaningSludge and Scum Levels- We measure sludge and scum levels to determine if it is time to pump the septic tank. When these levels reach about 3 inches from the bottom of the outlet device, it is time to pump your tank. If you decide against septic tank cleaning, your entire system might stop working properly, so be sure to move forward with a cleaning if you have high sludge and scum levels.
  • Drain Field Not Draining- If your drain field isn’t draining properly, it might mean that you are due for a septic tank cleaning. We will come out and look at your septic tank and drain field to determine the best course of action. If you wait too long, we might have to fix your drain field after we pump your tank.
  • It’s Been Years Since Your Last Cleaning- If several years have passed without getting a septic tank cleaning, then it is time for one. You do not want to wait too long in between cleanings, even if your tank is working properly. If you haven’t had one for five years, contact us at William Dustin Septic.

If it’s time for a septic tank cleaning, don’t put it off. A good cleaning can mean the difference between a working system and broken system.
